JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — A Royal Air Force team made a stop Wednesday in Cambria County.
They stopped to tour Martin-Baker America in Richland, a manufacturer of ejection and crash-worthy seats.
The Royal Air Force is fitted with the company's seats and was planning a fly-over Wednesday to release red, white and blue smoke, but the fly-over was cancelled due to the weather.
The Red Arrows are currently on an 11-week tour of North America to encourage kids to get into STEM programs.
“Factories like this and workforces like this show the future,” said James Linter, with the British Attache in Washington, D.C. “Red Arrows' tour is promoting and inspiring people to get into science, technology, engineering and mathematics. I think you have to come here to see it.”
Martin-Baker has several sites around the world, but its location in Johnstown is the only one in North America.
“Very impressed,” Linter said. “Professionalism shines through in everything they do. What shines through even more is the joy people have coming to work here knowing that what they do saves lives.”
Linter says despite the weather, the team still wanted to tour the facility to say thank you to the team at Martin-Baker America.
